Guðjón Samúelsson, State Architect of Iceland

Guðjón Samúelsson, born in 1887 and died in 1950, was the State Architect of Iceland. His designs are today some of the most famous buildings in Iceland. Many of his most notable works were said to be inspired by the natural geology of Iceland, especially the basalt columns such as those at Svartifoss here below:
